Nicostratus, the pelican
by Olivier Horlait
starring Emir Kusturica
The shooting of a Greek-French-Belgian film, starring the Bosnian director Emir Kusturica, was an undoubtedly fascinating
event for the residents and visitors of Milos. Intriguing and cheerful the blending of the locals with the film cast,
even the foreign pelicans became friendly with the wild goats and cats of Milos. The unique animal training in the
old school of Zefyria was indeed one of the biggest topics of discussion.
It's a deeply humane and tender story, based on Eric Bouasset' s novel "Nicostratus", which records the life of a
Greek teenager through his friendship with a pelican and his relationship with his father.
