Aphrodite of Milos

Nikos Argyreas Karaves
Karaves, the traditional offhanded children boats of Milos, are transformed in the hands of the local naif painter Nikos Argyreas to elaborate, worth loving objects.

Nikos' karaves "moor" at his workshop in Adamas lying side by side with his paintings.

"My boats are a memory from our childish dream...
My childhood experiences, going out from our
family house to the beaches of Adamas facing all kinds of vessels,
multi-colored hulls, fainted wood pieces and ropes,
together with the small tin boats we were making.
Then, later on, the kaikia (Grk. traditional fishing boat) of our parents;
in them we grew up, we travelled, we fell in love, we "fantasized"...
I am now coming back..."
